XIX - XXth century sculptures

LAURENS Henri (1885-1954)

He started as a stone-cutter on public monuments and was self-taught in sculpture. Before he met Braque and assimilated to the Cubist movement, he did not belong to any school of sculpture.  He then executed his first works on characters and still-life, often abstract while keeping a human figure. In the early 1930s, his shapes soften and become more figurative and his female characters become more neo-classical and he explored other themes such as history and mythology.  He worked on wood, stone, and bronze.
