XIX - XXth century sculptures

LE BOURGEOIS Gaston Etienne (1880-1956)

He was taught by his father and grand-father, both sculptors. After he lost an eye at the age of 18 years old, he settled in Paris in 1900 and started working mostly with wood on animal theme and also executed decorative objects. He was part of  the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in 1910. His work slowly modernises and he soon adopted the Art Déco style before it became popular among the artists. Although he worked on bronze and other materials, it's direct carving that interested him the most, especially on wood and ivory.
