MERCIÉ Antoine (1845-1916)

Former student of Jouffroy and Falguière at the Parisian Beaux-Arts, Mercié wins the first Prix de Rome with his “Thésée vainqueur du Minotaure” at 23 years. He had a long and successful career in Paris from 1874, receiving many orders for his work. Famous sculptor at 30 years, Mercier's style represents many patriotic subjects wich will be displayed on public places such as Trocadero, The Parc Monceau or Père Lachaise.  He later becomes the president of the Société des Artistes Français. His bronzes were cast by Barbedienne and Thiébaut.
